The N2 over Sir Lowry’s Pass to Houw Hoek Hotel required maintenance in the form of appropriate localized pre-treatment, surface (Wearing Coarse – 2000 tons) and Base (BTB – 7400 tons) repairs of the existing pavement followed by the construction of an asphalt layer over the full width of the carriageway. An Ultra-Thin Friction Course (UTFC) was constructed over the Sir Lowry’s Pass section of the works (140 000m2). The project further included the repair of the Sir Lowry’s Pass Viaduct Joints and widening of four (4) intersections.
