Located on Plattekloof Road over the N7 between Milnerton and Bothasig, this project involves the comprehensive upgrade of the Refinery Interchange to improve traffic capacity and safety on a key corridor. Valued at R260 million and scheduled between July 2021 and February 2024, the scope includes the construction of two new bridges over the N7, demolition of the existing bridge (B4247), a new bridge over the Transnet Rail with rehabilitation of the existing structure, as well as the construction of a new westbound carriageway and realignment of the eastbound carriageway.
The ramps to the interchange have also been widened and raised. Works required over 49,000m³ of cut-to-fill, extensive asphalt surfacing exceeding 85,000m², and large-scale structural concrete and steel installations. This strategic upgrade ensures improved capacity and connectivity for one of the busiest transport routes in the Western Cape.
