The Kokstad Interchange and Traffic Control Centre project is a large-scale, multi-disciplinary contract valued at R733 million, running from September 2021 to August 2025. The works include the reconstruction of the N2 between km 5 and km 8, new on- and off-ramps, realignment of the R56, and construction of a new parallel service road with access roads to affected businesses.
Structures comprise a new three-span bridge over the N2, widening of the Koppieskraal River Bridge, six new box culverts, an underpass, and an extended culvert. Building works feature the new double-storey Traffic Control Centre (TCC), complete with architectural, mechanical, and electrical installations, including weighbridges, break testers, ANPR and HSWIM cameras, and interchange lighting. The contract entails significant earthworks (480,000m³ cut to fill), pavement layers, structural concrete, and steel installations, collectively improving road safety, traffic flow, and freight monitoring in the region.
