The IRT Phase 2A Depot project in Khayelitsha supports the expansion of Cape Town’s integrated public transport system. Valued at R474 million and scheduled from August 2022 to October 2025, the works involved the construction of reinforced concrete hardstands, internal circulation roads, stormwater and sewer reticulation, and multiple depot buildings, including administration offices, bus wash bays, refuelling facilities, and security infrastructure.
The project also integrates advanced mechanical and electrical systems such as CCTV, lighting, IT ducting, and access control, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Designed to accommodate future expansion and embed sustainability, the facility required seamless coordination across civil, structural, architectural, and M&E disciplines, demonstrating H&I Construction’s multidisciplinary capabilities in delivering complex urban infrastructure.
