This R288 million project, undertaken between March 2019 and December 2021, involved the realignment and pavement upgrade of MR 535 to extend its design life and improve serviceability. The 29.17km section (Schedule B) required full in-situ reconstruction, including new subbase and basecourse layers surfaced with a 19mm Cape Seal.

A further 12.2km section (Schedule C) was rehabilitated using a cement-treated base topped with a 14mm NCRT rubber seal and asphalt overlay. Works also included temporary traffic bypass construction, pioneer layers, significant cut-to-fill and spoil, soil nails, and shotcrete for stabilisation. The project delivered over 208,000m² of Cape Seal, 78,000m² of rubber seal surfacing, and 41,600 tons of asphalt, ensuring improved safety, durability, and resilience along this vital regional route.
